Welcome to Paradigm One

Disclaimer: The following represents the opinion of Lee Karl Palo, and does not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of Cokesbury or the United Methodist Publishing House.

Welcome to my blog! I am a seminary-educated layperson who works for the United Methodist Publishing House (UMPH) as a Cokesbury Store Manager in Kirkland, Washington. I am thrilled to be working for a company that supports the ministries of such a diverse range of the Christian community. While I believe working for UMPH/Cokesbury is a ministry, for some time now I have felt strong calling toward a writing ministry as well. As the above disclaimer implies, this blog is not to be confused with my work for UMPH/Cokesbury—it is a wholly separate endeavor.

The name “Paradigm One,” in brief, means a disciplined study of the Bible, in its ancient context, with a strong commitment to follow wherever it leads. “One” represents the first, a place to start from. The word “paradigm” alludes to a prevailing theory or understanding in more of a scientific manner. To get closer to the true meaning of the Bible, assuming that its most accurate meaning is to be found in relation to the Bible’s ancient context, is the task of Paradigm One.

I will be writing about a variety of topics, but the term “Paradigm One” represents my overall method. For more on what I mean by “Paradigm One,” see the post of the same name.

Future topics will include…

– A look at some of the literary techniques by which the Bible was composed.

– The debate raging in the Church as to the full acceptance and inclusion of LGBTQ persons in the life of the Church.

– Current intellectual trends in the Church.

– How to find a good book in a Christian bookstore.

– …and many others!

Welcome to Paradigm One.
